PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) is an artificially synthesized ultra-hard cutting tool material produced by sintering cubic boron nitride single-crystal powder under high temperature and high pressure. It is an artificial ultra-hard material second only to diamond in hardness. The binders used are divided into two categories—metallic and ceramic—each serving to enhance toughness and high-temperature resistance, respectively.

PCBN (Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride) is an artificially synthesized ultra-hard cutting tool material produced by sintering cubic boron nitride single-crystal powder under high temperature and high pressure. It is an artificial ultra-hard material second only to diamond in hardness. The binders used are divided into two categories—metallic and ceramic—each serving to enhance toughness and high-temperature resistance, respectively. PCBN tools are suitable for high-speed machining of materials such as quenched steels (hardness ≥45 HRC), hard cast irons, and heat-resistant alloys, and can replace grinding processes to achieve precision finishing. Their cutting speeds can be 3 to 5 times faster than those of cemented carbide tools, and they can achieve a surface roughness as low as Ra 0.4 μm, significantly reducing manufacturing costs.
