Cemented Carbide
Alumina-based ceramic
Product Details
Alumina ceramic cutting tools are made from aluminum oxide (Al). 2 O 3 Tools made from corundum (also known as alumina) as the primary raw material, prepared via powder metallurgy processes—including batching, shaping, sintering, and finishing—are among the most widely used ceramic cutting tools today. Thanks to their exceptional properties such as high hardness and excellent wear resistance, these tools have established a significant presence in the fields of high-efficiency machining and the processing of difficult-to-machine materials. Based on differences in composition and performance, alumina ceramic cutting tools can be categorized into two major types: pure alumina ceramic tools and composite alumina ceramic tools.
Pure alumina ceramic cutting tools
Primarily sintered from high-purity alumina powder, with an alumina content typically exceeding 99%. Characteristics: extremely high hardness (HV 1800–2200) and excellent wear resistance; however, it has poor toughness, weak impact resistance, and is prone to chipping. Applicable scenarios: suitable for high-speed precision turning and semi-precision turning of brittle materials such as cast iron and non-ferrous metals; not recommended for machining workpieces involving intermittent cutting or impacts.
Composite alumina ceramic cutting tools
Adding reinforcing phases such as titanium carbide (TiC) or metallic phases (e.g., Ni, Co) to an alumina matrix to enhance toughness and overall performance is currently the mainstream approach for manufacturing alumina ceramic cutting tools.
