Metal-ceramics are high-performance composite materials formed by combining a ceramic phase with a metallic phase or alloy phase through powder metallurgy processes. They possess the high hardness, excellent wear resistance, and high-temperature tolerance characteristic of ceramics, as well as the high toughness, superior flexural strength, and good machinability inherent to metals. As one of the core substrate materials for ceramic cutting tools, metal-ceramics are ideally suited to meet the cutting requirements of difficult-to-machine materials in advanced manufacturing applications.
Leveraging their performance advantages, metal-ceramic cutting tools are primarily suited for medium-to-high-speed, high-precision, dry or semi-dry machining applications. They are essential cutting tools in high-end manufacturing sectors such as automotive, aerospace, mold making, and general machinery.
1. Finishing / Semi-finishing: Turning and boring of ferrous metals such as carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and cast iron—e.g., precision machining of automotive engine crankshafts, camshafts, and cylinder blocks.
2. Light cutting of difficult-to-machine materials: Shallow-cut precision machining of titanium alloys and high-temperature alloys (used in conjunction with coatings);
