Cylinder block and cylinder head
The cylinder block and cylinder head are the core components of an internal combustion engine, forming critical structural cavities such as the combustion chamber, coolant passages, and lubrication oil passages. They directly determine the engine’s power output, sealing performance, and reliability. These components also serve as a prime example of high-precision, high-difficulty machining in the manufacturing fields of automobiles, construction machinery, ships, and other equipment. Their machining encompasses a full range of cutting processes—including turning, milling, drilling, boring, reaming, and tapping—and places extremely stringent demands on tool precision, wear resistance, anti-sticking properties, and machining stability.
As the “skeleton” of the engine, the cylinder block requires machining of features such as cylinder bores, crankshaft journals, camshaft journals, mating surfaces, and bolt holes. As the engine’s “top cover,” the cylinder head necessitates the machining of complex structures including intake ports, exhaust ports, valve seat bores, spark plug holes, and combustion chamber surfaces. Both components are thin-walled box-type parts that are prone to deformation during machining. Moreover, the dimensional accuracy and geometric tolerances for critical hole systems and mating surfaces must meet micrometer-level requirements. Therefore, the machining process must strike a balance between efficient mass production and ultra-precise machining quality.
